Beneficiary states grateful as Total inaugurates 10 CSR projects in 8 northern states

It was a mix of excitement and gratitude for eight northern states on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 as they received 10 CSR projects worth one billion naira from Total upstream companies in Nigeria, NNPC and partners including  SAPETRO, CNOOC, and PETROBRAS. The official commissioning of the projects held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja

The projects inaugurated were:

  1. ICT Center with Mini Theatre at Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare, Bauchi State
  2. ICT Centre with Mini Theatre at Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto Stae
  3. Mammography Centre at General Hospital Anka, Zamfara State
  4. Maternal & Child Referral Centre in Bama, Borno State
  5. School Science Laboratory at Govt. Secondary School, Dutsinsafe, Katsina Stae
  6. Block of Six Classrooms at St Boniface Primary School, Idah, Kogi state
  7. Water Project at Bennin Kebbi, Kebbi State
  8. Water Project at Sokoto Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, Sokoto State
  9. Water Project at Offa, Kwara State
  10. Water Project at Inye, Kogi State

Deputy Managing Director, Deep Water, Engr. Ahmadu-Kida Musa explained the rationale for the projects at the event: “As you may know, according to some extant regulations, deep water operations adopts the entire country as host especially for its CSR activities.

“These projects were borne out of the need to mitigate the gaps in qualitative and technical education, maternal and child health, access to clean water and sanitation. The location of these projects were also carefully chosen to impact the internally displaced persons especially in the North East of the country. 

“They are also in congruence with the United Nations Sustainable Goals Nos 3, 4, 6 and 7.  Most of these projects are delivered with integrated solar power which is environment-friendly and cheaper to run. The projects we are commissioning today were constructed and equipped at a cost of about One billion naira.” 

He explained that annually, the company provides 1600 scholarships to beneficiaries in tertiary institutions. Other projects by the company include construction and equipping of model schools, science laboratories, and ICT centres.

 In the area of health, the company is constructing four (4) units of maternal and child referral centers in the North East to assist the women and children impacted by the on-going insurgency in the area. 

“One of these is being commissioned today at Bama. It is our intention to deploy these equipment to all the states of the federation according to our strategic plan,” Musa added.

In his remarks, Group General Manager, NAPIMS, represented by Mr. Aliyu Jafaru, reiterated the commitment of the NNPC , Total and other Partners to bring succor to the people through such interventions. He urged the befitting communities to take advantage of the facilities and deploy them judiciously.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Partners at the event.

Representatives of the various states took turns to express their happiness and gratitude for the projects while commending the companies for the gesture.

Also speaking, the Executive General Manager, CSR, Engr. Vincent Nnadi paid tribute to various parties whose professional disposition helped the company deliver standard projects for the states. In his remarks, chairman of the Commissioning Committee, Mr Azu Azuike hinted that the 10 projects were part of over 30 projects undertaken, by the company and its partners, across the country.
