Total increases professional imprint at 2019 NAICE: Akinwunmi Clinches SPE VP; Total Receives Awards

Total enlarged its professional imprint on the Society of Petroleum Engineers Nigeria Council as the SPE's Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE 2019) came to a close on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos.

While several staff of the company chaired technical sessions and others shone in their paper  presentations, the Executive General Manager GSR & Planning, Mr. Olatunji Akinwunmi emerged Vice Council Chairman of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Nigeria Council 2019/2020 at the society’s Annual General Meeting AGM)  held August 6.

 "This is good for Total and me. It is good to have more participation from the IOCs, which has been declining in the past few years. It is a win-win situation for Total and the SPE because Alek Musa, a former Deputy Managing Director in Total has also been announced as the Chairman Board of Trustees of the SPE. Together, we can help to bring more professionalism, more technicality and a bit more respect to the technical profession in the oil and gas industry," Mr. Akinwunmi remarked at the AGM

Activities at the Total exhibition booth was taken a notch higher with engaging activities tailored to visitors, students and the academia and mouthwatering gifts and prizes for participants in quizzes.

A talk show on energy mix and the future of oil and gas opened activities of the day followed by series of presentations on Upper Limbs Muscular Skeletal Disorder, Human Resources, Contracts and Procurement, Corporate Social Responsibility, Waste Management, Digital Oil Field and a quiz on GSR. The IFP school students were also at the Total booth where they were educated on one of Total's recent projects: the Ikike project.

Messrs Oladipo Faseemo, Adegboyega Ajayi and Ikechi Anozie co-chaired some of the Technical Sessions at the three-day event that showcased technological advancement and innovations ongoing in the industry, and the academia. General Manager, Joint Venture Drilling & Completion, Mr. Andrew Enwemadu received the SPE International Regional Drilling Engineering Award while Head 2G Akpo GSR, Mr. Adeoye Adeyemi received the second runner up award of the best E-poster Paper with his presentation titled, Complex Reservoir Re-Development in a Deep Offshore Maturing Field; Akpo Field Case Study among other awards at the closing event

Earlier on Monday, August 5, 2019, Total was awarded a Gold sponsor at the Oil Industry Dinner & Awards night held at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos. The award was received on behalf of the company by Mr. Olatunji Akinwunmi.

The company also received the Distinguished Corporate award  at the SPE Lagos section 61 Annual General Meeting and awards night held on Saturday, August 3, 2019. Two other staff of Total were also elected into the board of the SPE Lagos section 61as the Students Affairs chair and as the Community Affairs chair.

The 2019 NAICE was the 43rd edition and started with a Focus on the theme: "Artificial intelligence, Big Data and Mobile Technology: Changing the Future of the Energy Industry".

Stakeholders and companies in the Oil and Gas industry including local and international support sectors took part in the three-day event. They include Nigeria's national oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), multinational oil companies such as Total, Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron, several indigenous E&P companies, oil and gas servicing companies and contracting firms.

The Deputy Managing Director, Deep Water District, Engr. Ahmadu-Kida Musa represented the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mike Sangster at the conference.
