Total in Nigeria Commended for Sponsorship of 2019 AFCON Viewing Centres

One of the highpoints of the recently concluded 2019 Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON) was Total’s co-sponsorship of viewing centres across some strategic locations in Lagos.

The initiative was to promote community engagements and give Lagosians an opportunity to watch the matches and also catch up with neighbours and members of their communities.

The viewing center initiative, tagged "Lagos Issa Goal", was handled by the Lagos Sports Commission in partnership with Slimburg Limited.

Viewing centres were located in Abesan Playing Ground, Alimosho; Agege Stadium, Agege; Epe Recreation Centre Epe; Igbogbo Playing Ground, Ikorodu; Naval Playground, Ajegunle; Campos Mini stadium, Lagos Island; Rowe Park Sports Centre; Yaba and Mushin and Oshodi communities.

At the viewing centres, spectators appraised the 2019 Total AFCON; the viewing centre initiative and Nigeria’s Super Eagles team performance at the tournament.

Charles Uwadiagbe from Abesan estate: I will like to thank Total for sponsoring the AFCON. They are a big company anyway, kudos to them. The viewing centre has brought a lot of people together, everybody enjoyed the game, it is beautiful. They should just improve on it by adding more facilities to the viewing centres in future.

Oluayo Segun from Iyana Ipaja: I need to appreciate the Total for sponsoring this game but they need to enlarge it more than this. Total’s involvement in sports is good but they need to participate more in other sports.

Shola Thomas from Alagomeji, Yaba:  It is good that Total is sponsoring the viewing centres. Total should continue to sponsor sports different aspects of sports development.

Samson Ajayi from Rowe Park, Yaba: The way Total is sponsoring all these games, we appreciate them, not only football, they sponsor other sports. Even their staff also participate in sports. Our Nigerian midfield is somehow not coordinate (sic).

Sponsorship of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), establishment of viewing centers and also the staff club’s engagement of staff with the AFCON Predict and Win competition were all manifestations of Total’s commitment to sports development.

The Executive General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Vincent Nnadi from the Alexandria Stadium, Egypt summed it up: “Total is a great friend of Africa and we feel obliged to be part of this development, especially for the teeming youths.”
