TotalEnergies, Sangster Receive Awards at SSAOG 2021
TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited received the Technology & Innovation Award for its commitment to Local Content at the Annual Sub-Saharan Africa Oil & Gas, SSAOG 2021 Conference, held on Monday, August 16, 2021.
The Managing Director, Mr. Mike Sangster was also given the Innovative Leadership award for his role at the TotalEnergies Nigeria affiliate and his contributions as the Chairman of the Oil Producers Trade Section, OPTS.
Executive General Manager, Government Relations, Mr. Olalere Babasola received the two awards on behalf of the company and the MD at the Leadership Award night.
The theme of the Conference held from August 12 – 13, 2021 in Houston Texas was: The Future of Upstream, Advancing Digitization and Gas Development Options.
Mr. Sangster thanked the organisers of the conference for the awards and said, with the ongoing coronavirus vaccinations across the world, there is finally light at the end of the tunnel for the oil and gas, and energies industry.
“We are aware of the challenges the world has faced since the inception of the coronavirus pandemic and the adverse impacts on global economies. Our industry has been one of the hardest hit,” Mr. Sangster stated. He further said that, “In the last decade or so, TotalEnergies has been the only company in the Nigerian oil & gas industry to deliver three deep offshore projects, namely Akpo (2009), Usan (2012) and Egina (2018), in the midst of prevailing statutory and regulatory uncertainties.”
Mr. Sangster used the opportunity of the conference to reiterate TotalEnergies core value of safety: “For us at TotalEnergies, safety is a core value because we believe that nothing can be done in our operations without respecting the very highest safety standards.”
The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Content Development Monitoring Board, NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Wabote who was at the conference eulogised TotalEnergies for its commitment to Nigeria’s local content development. Engr. Wabote commented that TotalEnergies as a company has demonstrated its genuine commitment to the Nigerian Content vision of the Federal Government. He expressed delight that TotalEnergies always tries to beat its own records in promoting Nigerian content. He called on other companies to learn from and be like TotalEnergies for the benefit of the country.
The conference was a rallying point for stakeholders who focused on assessing the global energy outlook, shift in composition of energy demand, appraised the future of upstream amid energy transition and discussed how Sub-Saharan African countries can collaborate for the benefit of the continent.
Earlier in his keynote address, the Chairman of Seplat, Dr.. Bryant Orjiako highlighted the energy poverty in most part of Africa with emphasis on Nigeria. He shared Seplat’s experience, and strategy which focuses on gas penetration for domestic use.
Other highlight of the conference was a golf tournament at La Quinta Golf Course in Missouri, Texas.
