TotalEnergies STARTUPPER of the Year Challenge: Empowering Young Entrepreneurs for Economic Growth

TotalEnergies Startupper of the Year Challenge stemmed from the Corporate Social Responsibility policy of the TotalEnergies group to support the socio-economic development of all countries where it operates worldwide and has been initiated simultaneously in 34 countries in Africa, TotalEnergies in Nigeria launched the Challenge "Startupper of the year” to identify, reward and provide support to the best business creation and business development projects under two years of existence in Nigeria by Nigerians aged thirty-five years and below.

A CLEAR MISSION TO SUPPORT THE BOLDEST PROJECTS

The mission of TotalEnergies Startupper Project is to support young innovative entrepreneurs by not only giving them financial support but also customized coaching, an impactful and rewarding label and visibility. It is an initiative with a very concrete response towards strengthening the industrial fabric and improving employment in Nigeria in line with the values of TotalEnergies to support new initiatives that will improve the lives of communities across continents.

A CHALLENGING SELECTION PROCESS

A total number of 1,934 projects were submitted and evaluated to get the top 72. This was conducted, in accordance with the contest rules, by the first level reviewers who comprised of carefully selected professionals, business experts, professors and senior lecturers in Nigeria.

Subsequently the top 72 projects were evaluated by a jury of professionals who reviewed and selected an initial top ten and then top 3 amongst the projects. This was based on specific criteria which include innovation, originality, audacity and potential to impact on socio-economic development of the Nigerian society and its people.

The top three finalists with the wining projects are:

  • Mr. Opeyemi Owosho of Fitco Tech Integrated Venture, who took first place position.
  • Miss. Uzoma Eleke of Zeta Prime Alternative Technologies, who came second.
  • Mr. Emeka Nwachinemere of Kitovu Ltd., who took third place in the challenge.

These finalists received high impact one-to-one coaching engagements with top business technocrats who served as mentors. TotalEnergies is monitoring the progress of these young and promising enterprises to ensure they become major substitution to imports, provide sustainable added value and job creation as well as transform communities across Africa and indeed globally.
